    Chandragiri Fort (Vijayanagar Empire)

Chandragiri · 15 km from Tirupati

    About This Place

Historic 11th-century fort — the 4th capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. Raja Mahal Palace is now an archaeological museum with Indo-Saracen architecture.

Chandragiri was under the Vijayanagara empire for about three centuries. The famous emperor Srikrishna Devaraya was kept here as a prince until his coronation at Penukonda. The fort is where the pact granting lands for Fort St. George to the British was signed in 1639.
