    Ardhagiri Veerabhadra Swamy Temple, Aragonda

Aragonda Village, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh · 75 km from Tirupati

    About This Place

Ardhagiri (literally 'half mountain') is an ancient hilltop Shaivite temple in Aragonda village, believed to be a fragment of the Sanjeevani Parvatam dropped by Lord Hanuman. The hill is famed for its sacred Pushkarini (Ramatheertham), whose waters and the herbs around it are believed to have miraculous healing powers — especially on Hanuman Jayanti and full-moon nights.

As per the Ramayana legend, when Lord Hanuman was carrying the Sanjeevani Parvatam from the Himalayas to revive Lakshmana, a small piece fell here and came to be known as Ardhagiri ('half hill'). The temple is dedicated to Sri Veerabhadra Swamy, the fierce form of Shiva who emerged to destroy Daksha's yagna. The hilltop shrine has been a continuous Shaivite pilgrimage centre for centuries and is administered by the Andhra Pradesh Endowments Department. Devotees climb roughly 400 steps to reach the temple. Aragonda also hosts the famous Apollo Hospital — pilgrims often combine a visit with health check-ups.
